The objective of this project was to design a system of experimental physical house numbers. Made from 3/8” steel rod bent into continuous lines, these numbers were inspired by the curvature and functionality of hand rails. Each cross bar bends forward at 90°, creating dimensionality and shifting angles of perception, depending on the viewerʼs location. The ends of each number bend back and mount directly into holes drilled into the substrate, creating a clean, undisrupted look that accentuates the continuous lines of the design. Metalwork by artist Matthew Dumpit.

A timeline documenting the intense 21 game match between the U.S.A.’s Bobby Fischer and the U.S.S.R.’s Boris Spassky at the 1972 World Chess Championship, during the height of the Cold War — as well as the complex political and personal tensions unfolding behind the scenes. The typography is influenced by the progress of the tournament: each time a player wins, he gains in point size, while each loss results in a loss of point size, making the outcome of the tournament increasingly clear.
Printed on matte vinyl with metallic blue dry transfers.
Dimensions: 120” x 60”

The aim of this project was to redesign a mainstream newspaper with an experimental approach, while retaining all of the original information. In this design, the front cover of The New York Times has a panel that, when flipped over, reveals a table of contents as well as a short daily factoid.

Poster for a short talk I gave about exploring visual avenues and processes one might usually consider to be ugly, counter intuitive, or just plain wrong in order to reveal surprising, powerful and perhaps even beautiful results. Made by carefully hand-embroidering the verbiage, flipping it over to expose the densely packed reverse side, and scanning the results.

A trio of book covers that visually unify three very different stories about war. The ephemeral nature of life during wartime is conveyed through visual metaphors – a fragile dandelion, a broken egg, a bubble near to bursting – that also reference the content of each book.
